How to safely disconnect the electricity

Always switch off the power using the circuit breaker.

Once your meter has been replaced, the electricity supply to the property must only be switched off using the button on the electricity meter.

If the power is switched off by any other means, the network operator will receive a fault notification, which may result in an unnecessary service visit.

• To disconnect the electricity supply to your property, switch off the power using the button on the smart meter. The button is circled in the image below.
• Press and hold the button for at least one second. When the electricity supply is switched off, the blue indicator light will flash. When the electricity supply is on, the blue indicator light remains steadily lit.

• Do not switch off the electricity supply using the property’s main switch. Whether you want to disconnect the electricity supply to your home temporarily or turn it off at your holiday home for an extended period, always use the button on the electricity meter. This disconnects the electricity supply while keeping the meter operational, allowing it to continue communicating with us and indicating that no electricity is being used at the property.
• When the electricity supply is disconnected correctly, your billing is based on your actual electricity consumption. One of the benefits of disconnecting the power using the meter is that you will no longer receive estimated bills. If the electricity supply is switched off using the property’s main switch, we lose communication with the meter and have to base your monthly bills on estimated consumption. When the meter remains connected, we can continue to receive not only consumption data but also important information about potential faults in the electricity network, enabling us to identify and resolve issues more quickly.
