Steps for obtaining an electricity connection
Please note that the process for ordering an electricity connection can take months, up to two months in built-up areas if the new connection requires the construction or reinforcement of the network.
You can manage matters related to your electricity connection and track the progress of your order through the OmaLiittymä service.
Once your building permit documents are in order, the next step is to consult a qualified electrical designer to prepare the electrical plans for your property. These plans will specify details such as the main fuse size for your upcoming utility connection. In addition to a designer, you will also need an electrical contractor approved by the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes)
It is advisable to contact us well in advance, as the connection process can take time if a new connection requires the construction or reinforcement of the network. You should place your order approximately 3–4 months before the desired connection date. In certain areas, such as the archipelago, the construction of a connection can take several months.
The connection agreement is a contract between the network company and the property owner in which the parties agree on connecting the property to the electricity distribution network. The agreement specifies the main fuse size, the delivery date, the amount of the connection fee, and the connection point. Once we have processed your order, we will send the agreement to you by email for signature. Please sign the connection agreement within 14 days of receipt.
You can enter into an electricity supply contract as soon as you have signed your electricity connection agreement. Please ensure, however, that you conclude the electricity supply contract no later than three weeks before the electricity is connected. You can easily set up an electricity supply contract via our website.
We construct the connection cable from the electricity grid to the connection point specified in the connection agreement. The design and construction work takes approximately 1–2 months. The cable running from the connection point to the property is installed by an electrical contractor of your choice. Your electrical contractor also procures the connection cable and metering cabinet and ensures the safety of the installations.
It is the responsibility of your electrical contractor to perform a final commissioning inspection of the electrical installation. The metering panel and the service cable must be fully installed, the cable trench backfilled, and the cable connected to the metering panel. Once the electrical installation for the building is complete, the contractor will request the connection of the service line and the installation of the electricity meter by submitting a general information form. A copy of this form will be sent to the customer via email.
How much does an electricity connection cost?
You can find the prices for electricity connections in the connection price lists – Kerava and Sipoo have their own separate lists. The price of an electricity connection depends on the location of the building site, the distance to the nearest distribution transformer, and the size of the main fuse or the required connection capacity.
