Choose spot-priced electricity, optimize your consumption, and influence your costs!
Spot-priced electricity
The exchange electricity contract is the choice of an active electricity user. The price of exchange electricity is determined hourly according to the Nordic electricity exchange Nord Pool, so you can take advantage of daily price fluctuations by timing your own consumption. The contract is valid for an indefinite period, so you can terminate the exchange electricity contract with a notice period of two weeks (14 days).

Is it worth getting a spot-price electricity contract?
Spot-priced electricity is a suitable option for you if you are willing to actively monitor electricity prices. With this type of contract, you react immediately to price fluctuations: you benefit from price drops, though it is also important to be aware of the risk of price increases.
Changes in electricity prices are reflected more quickly in spot-priced contracts than in other types of agreements—such as indefinitely valid or fixed-term contracts—where price adjustments occur with a delay. Ultimately, your own active monitoring of electricity prices is key to getting the most out of a spot-priced contract.
When is spot-priced electricity cheap?
The price of exchange-traded electricity varies by the hour. Price peaks typically occur in the morning between 7:00 and 9:00 and in the evening between 17:00 and 19:00. Electricity prices are usually lowest at night, so it is advisable to schedule major consumption for nighttime hours whenever possible.
Hourly prices for the following day are published the day before. You can view these hourly rates (i.e., spot prices) in the Keravan Energia app, for example.
How do you review your spot-priced electricity bill?
Your exchange-priced electricity bill does not itemize the price for every single hour; instead, it shows the realized average price for the month. Your bill also displays your own consumption. With the Kerava Energia app, you can track both spot prices and your own consumption, even on an hourly basis.

Terminating an spot-priced electricity contract
You can terminate an exchange-priced electricity contract with a notice period of two weeks (14 days). When you choose exchange-priced electricity, you can switch to a different contract at any time—meaning you do not have to commit to a long contract term. If you prefer electricity with more stable pricing and less worry, you could choose the indefinitely valid Kvartaalisähkö or the fixed-term Joustosähkö instead of exchange-priced electricity.
