Compensation for solar energy production
As a Keravan Energia customer, any surplus electricity generated by your solar panels won’t go to waste, even when production temporarily exceeds your consumption.
We compensate you for the electricity generated by your solar panels in two ways:
1. Net metering
Net metering is a way of crediting the surplus electricity generated by your solar panels on your electricity bill. It compares the electricity your solar panels feed into the grid with the electricity your home draws from the grid over the same metering intervals.
Net metering helps you get the most out of your solar panels by maximizing the amount of electricity you can use yourself. Even if your solar panels temporarily generate more electricity than your home consumes, nothing is lost. Instead of comparing production and consumption at every instant, net metering balances the electricity your solar panels feed into the grid against the electricity your home draws from the grid over the same metering intervals.
Using data from your electricity meter, our systems calculate net consumption and net production for each metering period by offsetting the electricity generated by your solar panels against your home’s electricity use during the corresponding interval. This means you will never be billed for buying electricity from the grid while simultaneously selling electricity back to it during the same metering period.
The net metering values replace the standard meter readings for billing purposes.
Net metering is available for microgeneration systems connected to our electricity distribution network, including solar power systems with a rated capacity of less than 100 kVA.
The table below illustrates net metering over a single day. Electricity drawn from the grid refers to electricity purchased from the electricity network for the property, while surplus electricity fed into the grid refers to the portion of solar power production that is not used directly on-site and is instead exported to the grid.
In the example shown, the solar system feeds 55 kWh into the grid, which reduces the property’s electricity consumption on the bill by a total of 44 kWh. In this example, there is 11 kWh of surplus electricity sold to the grid.
2. We purchase surplus electricity
If, after net metering, your solar system still produces more electricity than you consume, you can sell the surplus electricity to Keravan Energia at a competitive price.
To sell your surplus electricity to us, you must enter into a purchase agreement with us.
A valid electricity sales agreement with Keravan Energia Oy or Sipoon Energia Oy is required, and your local distribution system operator must be able to provide metering data for the electricity produced.
Within the Keravan Energia and Sipoon Energia electricity network area, we do not charge micro-producers for the distribution of surplus electricity. Customers of other network operators should check any applicable charges directly with their own operator.
Electricity price paid for microgeneration by Keravan Energia Group
Benefit for Keravan Energia solar panel customers: we compensate surplus solar production at the Finnish price area spot price without any margin for customers who have purchased their solar panels through us.
For other customers, the compensation is based on the Finnish price area spot price minus a margin of 0.30 c/kWh (VAT 0%).
Make a purchase agreement for your surplus electricity
Important information when your purchase agreement ends
When your purchase agreement ends, please make sure that all compensation for your solar production has been included in your final bill. If your final invoice includes a line item called “Remaining advance payment under the agreement” (”Sopimuksen jäljelle jäävä ennakkomaksu”), it means that not all production has yet been credited.
In such cases, please send your bank account details by email to asiakaspalvelu@keravanenergia.fi, and we will pay any outstanding compensation directly to your account.
