How Joustosähkö pricing works
Joustosähkö contract consists of three components:
- A fixed base energy price (c/kWh)
- A fixed monthly basic charge (€/month)
- A variable consumption adjustment (+/- c/kWh)
The base energy price and the monthly basic charge remain fixed throughout the contract period. Your final electricity price is the base energy price plus the consumption adjustment.
What is the consumption adjustment?
The consumption adjustment reflects how the timing of your electricity use affects your final electricity price.
It is calculated by comparing the hourly price of the electricity you use with the monthly average spot market price. Depending on when you use electricity, the consumption adjustment can either reduce or increase your final electricity price.
If most of your electricity is used during hours when spot prices are higher than the monthly average, the consumption adjustment will increase your electricity price. On the other hand, if you use more electricity during lower-priced hours, the consumption adjustment will reduce your electricity price.
The consumption adjustment varies from month to month
The consumption adjustment is not a fixed charge. Based on our customers’ consumption patterns, it is typically within a range of approximately ±3 c/kWh, but there is no maximum or minimum limit.
Because the adjustment depends on both your electricity consumption and spot market prices, it changes every month. For example, it may be –4 c/kWh one month and +3 c/kWh the next if your consumption pattern changes.
If you mainly heat your home or charge your electric vehicle during the night or other low-price periods, this contract can help reduce your electricity costs. However, if most of your electricity use takes place during expensive hours—for example, if you regularly use an electric sauna during weekday mornings—another electricity contract may be a better fit for your needs.
The consumption adjustment is always calculated afterwards based on your actual electricity consumption during the billing period.
Consumption adjustment and a fixed-term electricity contract
A fixed-term electricity contract is valid for a predetermined period – in this case, 24 months. With a traditional fixed-term contract, your electricity price remains the same throughout the contract period.
With Flexible Electricity, the base energy price is fixed, but your final electricity price may be higher or lower depending on the consumption adjustment. By using more electricity during lower-priced hours, you can reduce your overall electricity costs.

When is Joustosähkö 24 months the right choice?
Joustosähkö 24 months is a great option if:
- You heat your detached house with electricity, especially if most of the heating takes place at night when electricity prices are usually lower.
- You own an electric vehicle and typically charge it overnight.
- You want to benefit from lower-priced hours without taking on the full price volatility of a spot-priced electricity contract.
- You value the price security of a 24-month fixed-term electricity contract.
What happens when your fixed-term electricity contract is about to end?
Around 90 days before your fixed-term electricity contract expires, we’ll send you a renewal offer. The product included in the offer may vary depending on the season, but in most cases it will be a new fixed-term electricity contract.
Please note that the price quoted in the renewal offer may change over time. We therefore recommend accepting the offer or choosing a new contract as soon as possible. You can always find our latest prices on our website and in our price list.
If we don’t hear from you after the first offer, we’ll send you a reminder approximately one month before your contract ends. Be sure to check your email so you don’t miss it.
Choose your next contract – or move to an indefinitely valid electricity contract
We encourage you to actively choose the electricity contract that best suits your needs before your fixed-term agreement expires.
If you do not sign a new electricity contract with us before your current one ends, your contract will automatically continue as an Indefinitely Valid Quarterly Electricity Contract.
With this contract, the electricity price is fixed for three months at a time and is updated four times a year to reflect market conditions. The price may therefore increase or decrease at the beginning of each new pricing period.
The notice period for the Indefinitely Valid Quarterly Electricity Contract is 14 days, giving you the flexibility to change your contract whenever you need. If you choose another electricity supplier instead, your new contract will automatically take effect when your fixed-term contract with us expires.
Where Our Electricity Comes From
5,1 % of the electricity sold by Keravan Energia is produced at our own power plants. In addition, Keravan Energia owns shares in other Finnish power plants, with electricity generated from these sources accounting for 27,5 % of our total electricity sales. The remaining 67,4% is purchased from the electricity exchange.
In 2025, the electricity we sold was produced using the following energy sources: 42,1 % renewable energy (water power, wind power, and bioenergy), 35,3 % fossil fuels, and 22.6% nuclear power.
The specific carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel-based electricity production were 235,26 g/kWh. The amount of spent nuclear fuel generated was 0.95 mg/kWh.
